big tips

Here in America, we’re all about being BIG.  Here at BIG, that stands for Brown Is Green.  In our case, let’s hope that BIGGER really is better.

Some smart water conserving tips:

* If you run a dehumidifier or air conditioner, use the runoff valve to collect the water rather than letting it run down the drain.   Use this water for plants, flowers, and gardens.

* Every downspout on your house or garage is a potental water source.  Consider putting rainbarrels on one or more of your gutter’s downspouts to collect the rainwater for watering lawns and other plants.

* If you have an automatic sprinkler system, consider using a smart system that senses when your lawn is not in need of watering.  Walking my dog in my neighborhood at night, it’s amusing to see sprinkler systems going full blast in the middle of a thunderstorm. (When she’s gotta go, she’s gotta go.)

* Consider installing a shower head with a shutoff valve; turn it on and off as needed instead of standing under a steady stream for 10 minutes.  There are also shower heads that have water purifying filters in them as well as shutoff valves.  Remember, you can absorb impurities through your skin as well as by drinking water.
