It’s worth noting that although Robert Glennon is correct by stating in his book “Unquenchable” that biofuels as they are grown now are water inefficient, alternative methods such as harvesting seaweed, growing sorghum or sugarbeets instead of corn, or using cattail marshes in water treatment facilities to produce biofuels are all sustainable methods of biofuel production. Other alternative agricultural methods can also save water, such as replacing cotton with hemp, which requires a fraction of the water to grow with no petrochemical fertilizers or pesticides. Water saved by these methods would be available for biofuel production. Biofuels can be grown sustainably.
